My favorite gym nowadays is Studio Three. I found them through ClassPass last year and it's what I've always wanted a workout class experience to be like. In the past it was at LA Fitness with instructors who seemed bitter or bored and not in great shape. I mean, I don't need to have someone incredibly buff or lean as a teacher but if they're not in great shape and they hate teaching, what fun is that? A middle aged man taught a bootcamp class at LA Fitness once and yelled out "did I say you guys could get water?!" when I ran to grab my water bottle during class. I literally froze and said "I can get water when I want, thanks!" and I left. At Studio Three, all the instructors are not only incredibly friendly but very encouraging. Instead of yelling at you to do better, these guys push you in a positive way but also tell you to go at your own pace and do what feels right for your body. Maybe it sounds cheesy but it helps you get through the workout and it also helps when the instructor loves what they're doing. Highly recommend this place - it is pricey but I sign up through my ClassPass membership and do about 1 or 2 classes a week. They have 2 locations but when Covid hit they did a ton of live classes and now they have the Arena - an outdoor space - at Orleans & Chestnut. Plus their gyms take temps, require masks and separate everyone with plexiglass. So great!
